Rapéh is a term used for nasal shamanic snuffs prepared by the indigenous Amazonian tribes. It is a fine, light-coloured powder containing tabaco and other medicinal and sacred plants. Rapéh is created using traditional knowledge using a variety of carefully chosen ingredients including various dried plants; vines, leaves, seeds, flowers and the ashes from different trees known for their spiritual and medicinal properties. In South America, the indigenous people have been producing snuffs from countless different plants for far beyond recorded history. They have an intimate ancestral knowledge of ethnobotany and see the process of insufflation as the mechanism of delivery from the plant to the human. Indigenous peoples of all cultures have a close relationship with nature and the plants around them. Importance is placed on building a relationship with the subtle nuances and feeling you get by ingesting different plants, they serve as spiritual and medicinal allies for the purpose of healing, harmonising and balancing the subtle energetic body, as well as the mental, physical and emotional layers.
